About The Position

This position supports the smooth handling of medical records that keep health care operations running well within the institution. It involves preparing, organizing, and managing important information that helps staff deliver proper care. As a Medical Records Assistant, you will perform the following duties: Record Management: Prepare, update, and organize electronic, paper, and film medical records with accuracy Quality Review: Check records for completeness, follow documentation rules, and refer incomplete files to staff File Handling: File, withdraw, and issue records while following confidentiality rules and legal guidelines Information Requests: Compose routine requests for medical information and assist with record transfers Archiving Tasks: Archive files for former inmates and ensure documents are sent to the State Records Center (SRC) correctly Data Tracking: Maintain logs and prepare statistical reports to support health services operations

Requirements

  • One year of clerical experience maintaining or reviewing medical records, transcribing dictated or recorded medical information, or conducting medical abstracting and coding; or Graduation from an accredited medical secretarial, medical records, medical transcription, medical assisting, medical coding, or health information management program; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
