About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a full-time Medical Receptionist for the VCH Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Vanderbilt Clarksville Hospital location. This role is responsible for coordinating the nursing station, performing clerical and reception duties, requisitioning supplies and equipment, and facilitating communication between patients, visitors, and staff. Requirements

  • Customer Service (Novice): A continuing focus on the needs and requirements of customers, anticipating their needs, remaining sensitive to customers while performing services for them, responsive to customer needs.
  • Patient Documentation (Fundamental Awareness): The ability to receive and record patient information.
  • Telephone Skills (Fundamental Awareness): Knowledge of the skills, procedures, attitudes, etiquette, and competencies necessary for successful telephone communication with customers.
  • Relevant Work Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates nursing station, performs clerical and reception duties.
  • Requisitions supplies, equipment, and services as directed.
  • Coordinates communications between customers and staff.
  • Follows hospital policy and procedures.
  • Processes orders according to guidelines and follows computer downtime procedures.
  • Enters and updates information in the computer system to ensure accuracy and retrieves data.
  • Maintains unit log according to guidelines, makes follow-up appointments, and performs discharge-related clerical tasks.
  • Responds to patient call systems and requests, providing clear, current information to families, visitors, and staff.
  • Utilizes telephone, patient call system, beeper/paging system, fax/copy machine, scanner, unit-specific monitoring devices, and pneumatic tube system to facilitate the flow of communication, equipment, and supplies.
  • Orders, maintains, and uses supplies in a cost-effective manner.
  • Performs tasks that are typically routine that may impact team's performance with occasional guidance.
  • Utilizes some discretion and research to solve routine problems.
  • Applies knowledge of standards, established processes, and procedures that apply to your own job.
  • Provides guidance to entry-level co-workers.
  • Continuously improves own skills by identifying development opportunities.
  • Seeks to understand colleagues' priorities, working styles, and develops relationships across areas.
