The Medical Receptionist is responsible for maintaining the front desk and reception area, ensuring it is neat and organized with necessary supplies. This role involves greeting visitors, including patients with disabilities and their families, with a positive and helpful attitude, providing excellent customer service. The receptionist manages the waiting room, ensuring patients are checked in, assisting with patient flow, and addressing or escalating concerns. For PHC assignments, they collect patient documentation for nursing review and update patient information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). They also conduct insurance eligibility checks, collect copayments, and schedule appointments. The Medical Receptionist assists the Practice Administrator with daily schedules to maximize productivity and coordinates patient transportation by scheduling pick-ups and drop-offs and dispensing MetroCards if applicable. They participate in quality improvement activities, escalate concerns, and monitor and respond to emails in a timely manner. Compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements is essential. For Article 16 Clinic assignments, additional duties include answering and screening multi-line telephone calls, receiving and distributing mail, and registering new patients in the EMR.
