About The Position

The San Antonio AIDS Foundation (SAAF) seeks to reduce HIV transmission, provide support and treatment for those living with HIV, reduce stigma, and support positive sexual health. SAAF offers sexual health education, STI and HIV testing and counseling, medical care, case management, housing and meal support, mental health services, and referrals for dental health. This position functions as a healthcare provider in the Care Clinic, offering HIV, PrEP, STI, and primary care. It requires a high level of cultural competency regarding the unique needs of the LGBTQIA++ community, communities of color, and other marginalized populations.

Requirements

  • Graduated as a Medical Doctor, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Advance Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner), or Physician Assistant.
  • Two (2) years of experience as an FNP/PA/MD/DO.
  • Experience handling complex patient loads.
  • Basic computer skills required, including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience navigating through Electronic Medical Records.
  • Current licensure as an MD/DO/PA/NP to practice in the State of TX by the State Board of Medical Examiners.
  • Current DEA, DPS certification.
  • Current CPR Certification required.
  • DOT Certification.
  • Current Immunization Records.
  • Current PPD.
  • Must be able to meet and maintain current SAAF credentialing and privileging requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS preferred.
  • Preference will be given to work experience in a public health or community clinic setting.
  • Completion of an accredited primary care residency program.
  • Board Certification (or eligible) in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care in accordance with the Texas Medical Board, Texas Board of Nurse Examiners, Nursing practice act, and Ryan White procedures and protocols.
  • Complies with US Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and Texas Department of State Health Services guidelines for treating HIV, PrEP, and STI clients.
  • Completes and reviews health histories.
  • Performs physical examinations.
  • Reviews and orders appropriate laboratory tests, immunizations, behavior risk assessment, specimen collection, test orders, review of lab results and determination of clinical eligibility for PrEP prescription and administers STI treatment.
  • Provides clinical direction for the HIV/STI PrEP clinic.
  • Provides clinical direction for mobile health units and clinical staff as needed.
  • Seeks to assure that HIV PrEP/STI clinic and all Care Clinic program policies and procedures are followed.
  • Establishes positive relationships with the local medical community and attends local medical society functions; acts as an ambassador for SAAF.
  • Expands the scope of services available through community referrals.
