About The Position

Nebraska Methodist Health System is seeking a Medical Physicist to join their team. This role involves clinical service and consultation, practice quality development, and staff training within a Varian environment with a single Aria database. Certified physicists or senior residents are encouraged to apply. The position requires working at Nebraska Methodist Hospital and potentially other locations like Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital and Methodist Fremont Health. Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of a Medical Physics degree in an accredited school is required at minimum.
  • Must have experience with all aspects of Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) for linear accelerators.
  • Must have experience with Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) treatment planning and QA.
  • Must have experience with High Dose Radiation (HDR) Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) as well as experience with planning High Dose Radiation (HDR) treatments.
  • American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification in Therapeutic Medical Physics required.
  • Eligible for or possess an Iowa registration in Medical Physics (MP) in the field of Radiation Therapy required.
  • Excellent written and oral skills.
  • Ability to work both independently as well as with a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified physicists or senior residents encouraged to apply.
  • Prefer 3 to 5 years of clinical experience.
  • Experience with treatment planning for external beam therapy is desirable.
  • Experience with any of these platforms is desirable but not required: Varian Truebeam and Edge linacs, Eclipse TPS, Aria database, linac-based SRS, Nucletron Flexitron afterloader and Oncentra HDR TPS.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain proper operation of radiation producing equipment owned by Methodist Hospital to ensure proper patient care by performing periodic equipment checks and reporting results and recommending actions to administrative personnel.
  • Linac monthly calibrations
  • Brachytherapy isotopes calibration checks
  • Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) Quality Assurance (QA) plan and measurements
  • Establish the proper operating conditions and techniques of newly purchased radiation producing equipment to ensure proper patient care and safety by advising the institution during the purchasing phase and performing acceptance testing measurements on the equipment after installation.
  • Learning Linac acceptance tests
  • Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and computed tomography (CT) simulator tests
  • Annual linac tests
  • Assists/performs radiation safety functions at the institution to ensure continuous and consistent radiation safety practices.
  • High Dose Rate (HDR) source exchanges
  • Performs dosimetry/treatment planning functions for Nebraska Methodist Hospital as needed by acquiring appropriate patient information and entering it into the treatment planning computer to ensure proper patient treatment is given.
  • Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) planning & review
  • Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) planning & review
  • High Dose Rate (HDR) brachytherapy planning
  • Maintains proper operating condition of all radiation detecting equipment in the hospital by performing appropriate tests to ensure proper operation and compliance with the appropriate regulations.
  • Survey meters & area detectors
  • Area surveys
  • Inter-comparisons of Quality Assurance (QA) equipment
  • Reviews Radiation Oncology patient charts for Nebraska Methodist on a periodic basis by checking math and dosimetry data to ensure accurate information is on the chart.
  • Initial chart checks and plan reviews
  • Weekly chart checks and final checks
  • Documentation in Record and Verify (R&V) system
  • Participates in mandatory inservices and continuing education programs as mandated by policies and procedures/external agencies and as directed by supervisor.
  • Attend weekly Chart Rounds and monthly physics meetings in department
  • Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the patient to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the Age Specific Criteria.
  • Observation demonstrates appropriate care based on the population being served
  • Performs patient procedures as required for patient care.
  • Brachytherapy competency demonstrated
