About The Position

We are seeking a Qualified Medical Physicist (QMP) to provide comprehensive medical physics services to the Cheyenne River Health Center. This is a non-personal services contract role, where the physicist operates independently under the contractor and is not supervised by the government. The role involves ensuring the safety, compliance, and optimal performance of diagnostic imaging equipment, while supporting clinical operations through testing, inspections, and quality assurance programs.

Requirements

  • Certification as a Qualified Medical Physicist (QMP) by one of the following: American Board of Radiology (ABR), American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP), or Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM).
  • Demonstrated experience in diagnostic imaging physics.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in hospital or clinical environments.
  • Knowledge of ACR, MQSA, and NCRP standards.
  • Experience with CT, radiography, and ultrasound systems.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable standards, including ACR, TJC, MQSA, and OSHA (29 CFR 1910.1096).
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions to the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO).
  • Conduct radiation safety audits and support facility compliance programs.
  • Perform annual inspections (not exceeding 14 months) for X-ray systems, CT scanners, ultrasound units, and digital radiography systems.
  • Conduct inspections after equipment repairs or modifications, and after installation or relocation of systems.
  • Complete acceptance testing for all new equipment prior to clinical use.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive Quality Assurance (QA) program.
  • Perform detailed physics evaluations including radiation output and exposure measurements, image quality and system performance, and dose monitoring and calibration.
  • Review CT protocols annually.
  • Monitor exposure indices and repeat/reject analysis.
  • Deliver detailed inspection reports in PDF format within 30 days.
  • Communicate deficiencies immediately to Biomedical Engineering and Radiation Safety Officer (RSO).
  • Provide corrective recommendations and follow-up assessments.
  • Provide shielding design calculations in compliance with NCRP Report No. 147.
  • Conduct shielding verification surveys.
  • Review dosimetry reports and provide safety consultation.
  • Assist with staff training and radiation safety guidance.
  • Support the following equipment: CT Scanner (Cannon Aquillion 64), Fixed X-ray (Siemens), Portable X-ray (Shimadzu), Digital Radiography (Konica Minolta), Ultrasound Systems (GE).
