About The Position

General responsibilities of the Medical Physicist Assistant include performing machine and patient-specific quality assurance (QA), development and implementation of new technology and processes, participation in the acceptance testing and commissioning of a new treatment machine. The role will train and work under the direct supervision of a Qualified Medical Physicist (QMP).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in: Physics, Engineering, Computer Science or Related Science
  • One (1 year) of related experience in clinical Radiation setting
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed, especially late-night shifts, to conduct patient-specific quality assurance.
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize workflow.
  • Technical problem solving
  • Excellent computer skills

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient-specific QA measurements following established procedures by QMP.
  • Performs measurements in phantom using film, ionization champers, portal dosimetry for the purpose of treatment plan dose verification.
  • Performs special in-vivo dosimetry measurements using TLD or diodes.
  • Performs daily, weekly and monthly QA checks under direct supervision of a Qualified Medical Physicist. This includes assisting with tests as part of annual machine calibrations and/or annual simulator reviews.
  • Assists with implementation of new therapeutic treatment procedures.
  • Follow instructions of an AMP on gathering of specific commissioning data and measurements for treatment machines.
  • Performs validation measurements for new technology and processes.
  • Assists QMP in developing, validating, and documenting tests and QA procedures for new technology and processes.
  • Assists QMP in developing training materials for new technology and processes.
  • Adheres to all Physics QA procedures and policies
  • Participates in research and development projects under the supervision of Chief of Quality Assurance
