About The Position

The Director of Medical Oversight oversees the safety and quality of patient care to ensure regulatory compliance, while shaping the agency’s overarching medical policies. The Director of Medical Oversight will be responsible for defining the clinical standards for the agency, while monitoring patient and individual outcomes. This position will lead quality management and performance improvement to ensure safe, high-quality and effective care of patients and consumers. Responsible for overseeing clinical and complex case management for patients and consumers throughout the agency. Responsible for resolving clinical conflicts. Responsible for overseeing and implementing the training needs and requirements for the agency. Oversees the credentialing of staff. Oversees the medical and clinical operations of all inpatient, outpatient, substance use disorder programs, developmental disabilities, and mental health centers. Manages medical directors of all BHDD medical services. Design and implement new programs that enhance service delivery and improve patient and consumer outcomes. Leads the clinical and complex case management for BHDD. Serves as BHDD’s medical expert to legislative leaders, patients, consumers, families and the community. Works with the Division of Finance to develop, maintain, and project current and future budgets for BHDD medical services. Works with the Division of Human Resources to recruit hard to fill and high-level positions.

Requirements

  • A medical doctorate from an accredited medical school with residency training in Psychiatry.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in psychiatric practice with a focus on outpatient and inpatient mental health care, substance use disorder programs, and intellectual and developmental disability services.
  • Previous experience in leadership role.
  • Licensed to practice medicine in S.C.
  • Board Certified in Psychiatry.
  • Maintains Board Certification.
  • Knowledge of multi-disciplinary delivery of psychiatric, mental health, substance use disorder, and intellectual and developmental disability services to patients and individuals of all ages in hospital, residential treatment facilities, substance use disorder programs and community settings outpatient.
  • Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and treatment planning skills.
  • Must have proven leadership skills.
  • Must have ability to develop state-of-the-art clinical and outpatient programming.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of standards regarding compliance, quality and performance improvement measures, as well as training programs and needs.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage patients, families, and staff.
  • Proficient in electronic health records and computer applications relevant to healthcare.
