About The Position

The Trust Investment Management & Oversight unit is a dynamic team within CIBC Private Wealth Management’s Wealth Solutions group, providing investment management services and oversight to clients of CIBC Trust Corporation. As the Director, Indigenous Trust Investment Oversight, you’ll lead all Indigenous Trust investment oversight activities, ensuring that CIBC Trust fulfills its fiduciary duties for this important client segment. You’ll work closely with Indigenous Trust Management and Administration, Indigenous Markets Relationship Managers, and other CIBC partners to address investment matters for both existing and prospective Indigenous Trust clients. Your role will include conducting client due diligence, collaborating with key stakeholders to understand their needs, and ensuring investment policies align with governing trust documents. You’ll also oversee investment discussions, negotiate solutions, and play a key role in shaping the future of investment oversight for Indigenous Trusts at CIBC Trust. A critical part of your responsibilities will be leading thorough quarterly account reviews and ensuring ongoing compliance with each client’s Investment Policy Statement, reinforcing prudent oversight and best practices.

Requirements

  • Hold a degree in Business, Commerce, Finance, or Economics.
  • Possess the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
  • 10+ years of investment management experience.
  • Deep understanding of markets, the economy, and the complexities of trust structures.
  • Comfortable engaging with a range of stakeholders, from community members to C-suite executives.
  • Knowledge of trust law, compliance, regulatory, trading, and investment operations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks while meeting strict deadlines.
  • Proficient in MS Office products, including Outlook, Word, Teams, and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills.

  • Use your expertise to support, guide, and train internal team members, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Build and manage relationships – Establish and nurture relationships with internal partners, external clients, and a broad network of advisors and stakeholders.
  • Communicate, negotiate, and resolve complex investment issues with objectivity, empathy, and sound judgment.
  • Support presentations alongside relationship management team members.
  • Develop and oversee investment policies – Collaborate with stakeholders to develop suitable investment policies and frameworks for client engagements.
  • Review and edit key governing documents such as Trust Agreements, Investment Policy Statements, and Investment Management Agreements.
  • Assess investment products and plans for prudence and suitability.
  • Lead quarterly account reviews and ensure compliance – Conduct comprehensive quarterly reviews of client accounts, ensuring all portfolios are monitored and evaluated against each client’s Investment Policy Statement.
  • Proactively identify and address any compliance issues, supporting CIBC Trust’s commitment to fiduciary excellence.
  • Monitor and report on investment performance – Gather and compile investment information to monitor, manage, and report on client portfolios and related investment activities.
  • Ensure CIBC Trust’s fiduciary investment duties are fulfilled on a prudent and ongoing basis.
  • Provide guidance and support – Advise and support team members on governance, reconciliation, and control of investment operations for Indigenous clients.
  • Provide regular and ad hoc reporting in partnership with Trust and Relationship Management personnel.
  • Collaborate across CIBC – Work with head office and functional partners, including Risk, Legal, Governance and Controls, and Compliance, to ensure investment aspects of client engagements meet CIBC’s standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Support sales and business development efforts by lending your investment expertise to client pitches as needed.
