About The Position

The Infusion Center/Medical Oncology nurse is an integral member of the healthcare team and collaborates with both internal and external staff to coordinate services, ensure quality care and provide continuity of care. The Oncology nurse is responsible for interdependently and independently assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care delivered to the oncology patient. The Oncology nurse will be responsible for administration of chemotherapy, implementing new methods of symptom treatment, answering patient phone calls and monitoring patient progress. During the treatment course and follow-up period, the Oncology Nurse will assess and provide appropriate nursing interventions for actual or potential problems that the patient and family may experience related to the disease process and treatment. This position involves direct patient care and encompasses patient and family teaching, symptom management, counseling, management of patient records, data entry and retrieval into and from the All Scripts EMR, participation in research and investigational drug administration, and having a clear understanding of chemotherapy side effects with combined radiation treatment, when applicable. The Oncology Nurse is an advocate for the patient and family. Effective communication skills are essential for this position, must be able to supervise patient care, secure cooperation from others, problem-solve, and exercise sound, safe initiative and judgement. Candidate will create a supportive environment by educating cancer patients regarding treatment options, procedures and particularities of the disease, which requires keeping up to date with self-education regarding new treatment methods. Oncology nurses must be prepared to work with patients who have been diagnosed with life-threatening conditions. The occupation requires emotional stability to assist patients and their families work through the treatment process and cope with death if treatment fails.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Registered Nursing program
  • Current licensure in Minnesota
  • Current Healthcare Provider level CPR certification upon hire or must be obtained within 6 months
  • Successful completion of the pre-employment health screening process
  • Must be able to attend the work site per schedule

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of one-year current Oncology (Infusion Center/Medical Oncology) nursing experience
  • OCN certification
