Act as a key member of the patient-care team, implementing treatment plans and monitoring patient progress. Utilize and promote approved standards of care, procedures, techniques, safety precautions, and study protocols. Order diagnostic tests, such as biopsies, blood tests, and imaging studies, to confirm diagnoses. The Medical Oncologist provides patients with comprehensive information about their cancer, prognosis, and possible treatment options. Develop treatment plans with measurable goals that deliver the highest level of care while respecting patient preferences. Maintain patients' quality of life by managing cancer-related pain, symptoms, and treatment side effects. Reassess treatment as the disease progresses and consider alternative therapies or palliative care when necessary. The Medical Oncologist participates in training sessions and communications related to study protocols and clinical trials, ensuring patient confidentiality is always maintained.
