The Medical Office Technician provides day-to-day staffing in an outpatient clinic setting, both clinically and administratively, depending on the practice's needs. This role is accountable for performing all responsibilities of a Health Assistance Associate (HAA) as well as clinical assistant responsibilities as appropriate based on training, education, and competency. The technician provides support for clinical and medical staff in the delivery of quality medical care and creates a positive experience for patients by welcoming and assisting them throughout the clinic. This role also involves performing waived and other in-house testing, obtaining patient specimens, verifying patient identification and orders, reviewing patient history, assessing blood draw sites, observing safety regulations, preparing samples for transport, and reporting abnormal or critical results. Additionally, the technician is responsible for cleaning, maintaining, performing quality control, and calibrating laboratory equipment, maintaining COLA and CLIA documents, ordering supplies, and participating in the training of clinical staff in basic office laboratory procedures. The role also includes assisting nursing staff with patient care and transport, maintaining competency through reviewing guidelines and policies, and acquiring knowledge of current regulatory standards.
