The Medical Office Technician provides day-to-day staffing in an outpatient clinic setting, both clinically and administratively, depending on the need of the practice. This role is accountable for performing all responsibilities of a Health Access Assistant (HAA) as well as clinical assistant responsibilities as appropriate based on training, education, and competency. The technician provides support for clinical and medical staff in the delivery of quality medical care and creates a positive experience for patients by welcoming and assisting them as they move throughout the clinic. The role involves performing waived and other in-house testing, obtaining patient specimens, verifying patient identification and orders, reviewing pertinent patient history, assessing the most appropriate blood draw site, observing safety regulations and universal precautions, preparing samples for transport, and reporting abnormal or critical results. Additionally, the technician is responsible for cleaning, maintaining, performing quality control, and calibrating laboratory equipment, ordering supplies, and participating in the training of clinical staff. The role also includes assisting nursing staff in patient care and transport, maintaining competency in all areas of responsibility, and acquiring and maintaining knowledge of current regulatory standards.
