About The Position

The Medical Office Receptionist provides essential office support, including reception, scheduling, and patient assistance, to ensure a high-quality patient service experience within designated specialty clinics. This role involves greeting patients and visitors, directing them to the appropriate resources, verifying demographic and eligibility information, and managing communications via phone and in person. The receptionist is responsible for registering new patients, scheduling and rescheduling appointments, collecting co-pays and balances, and responding to inquiries. This position also performs various clerical duties, operates standard office equipment, and may assist with medical records and ordering supplies. Maintaining a neat and professional work environment and adhering to organizational standards are key aspects of this role. The position requires some travel to other locations and flexible hours to meet operational needs.

Requirements

  • Highschool Diploma, GED, or Higher Education completed
  • One year of customer service work experience or interaction with the public required.
  • Proficient computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greets incoming patients and visitors, providing congenial and hospitable customer service.
  • Refers patients and visitors to the appropriate department or resource.
  • Notifies appropriate resource of patients and visitors arrival in a timely manner.
  • Assures patient demographics and eligibility are correct.
  • Receives and forwards telephone calls and takes and relays messages per protocol.
  • Registers new patients and schedules appointments for providers and services.
  • Reschedules appointments and follows up on cancelled and missed appointments.
  • Collects co pays and balances and makes follow up appointments as necessary.
  • Responds to patient and visitor questions in a timely and appropriate manner utilizing knowledge of the organizations policies and procedures.
  • May communicate with other departments, team members, physician offices, the hospital, or patients in response to requests for information, follow-up, or problem resolution.
  • Performs various clerical duties as needed in assigned work areas.
  • May order supplies for work area, open mail etc.
  • Operates standard office machines including computer, calculator, photocopier, fax and credit card terminal.
  • May assist with medical records and clinical personnel as needed.
  • Maintains work and waiting areas in a neat and professional manner.
  • May perform a variety of special projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to all NCH standards, policies and procedures.
