About The Position

This is a civilian position supporting the Military community. The Medical Office Clerk greets patients/visitors at a front desk, information center, or office setting. They answer the main office phone line, direct telephone calls to the appropriate section for assistance, and take messages as required. The role involves arranging and scheduling medical appointments, determining patient eligibility for services, and relaying general instructions to patients or making referrals to other sections. Additionally, the clerk obtains, updates, and files medical records as needed, organizes and researches patient records, extracts needed information, and reviews records for completeness, accuracy, and consistency within established guidelines. They ensure the arrival of medical records prior to appointments, initiate and locate patient medical records as needed, and obtain documentation requested by healthcare providers. The position also includes performing other administrative and clerical duties in support of medical care and operational support, creating appointment schedules and templates in the patient appointment computer system, and conducting end-of-day processes to resolve delinquent or pending appointments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalency.
  • A fully qualified typist with a minimum of 50 WPM is required.
  • General medical ethics, telephone etiquette, and excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • General office administrative and clerical skills to perform receptionist duties and answer telephones.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • At least 6 months of experience in office setting.
  • Skilled in Word, Excel, Access, and other software programs
  • Able to define problems and obtain solutions
  • Must be able to obtain clearance to access the work site located on a military installation and be granted a Common Access Card (CAC).
