About The Position

MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina that provides healthcare to patients within the rural health network throughout the state of South Carolina. This role provides administrative coverage at the front desk of the Clinic, including monitoring the clinic appointment line for scheduling appointments from outside medical, hospital, and correction systems. The Medical Office Assistant will answer multiline telephones, take payments from clients for clinical services, complete client registration and documentation, and schedule interpreters for clients. The position also involves retrieving billing charges and ensuring efficient operations of the physician medical office. Duties include scheduling, patient registration, telephone triage, medical records, billing, and collections. The role coordinates and participates in daily clinic preparation, patient identification, check-in/out, charge posting, cash management, and appointment scheduling. Additional responsibilities include customer service, message distribution, ancillary scheduling and preparation, and referrals management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency plus one year of patient care experience in a health care facility; or a Certified Nursing Assistant; or successful completion of a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant course at an accredited institution or equivalent training; or EMT or Paramedic certification; or a Bachelor’s degree.
