About The Position
As the only independent and physician-led faculty practice plan of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, University Clinical Health (UCH) offers best-in-class clinical care through a network of 175+ providers across 19 specialties to meet the healthcare needs of the Mid-South community. UCH is a not-for-profit, non-tax-supported group practice and is here to serve the community while providing medical excellence to our patients. The Medical Office Assistant (MOA) will provide excellent patient and physician customer service. Responsibilities will include greeting patients and visitors, verifying patient information in the NextGen system, collecting co-payments, and performing automated appointment scheduling. The MOA will also maintain patients’ medical charts.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent Required
- 1 -2 years of work experience in a medical office setting Required
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills required
- Excellent telephone etiquette
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
Nice To Haves
- Experience using medical billing system Preferred
Responsibilities
- Effectively checks in patients by: greet, Arrive, verifying benefit coverage, verify and entering referral, verify and update FSC and demographic information, collect and post co-pay and self-pay balance, pharmacy provider, obtain complete medical history and HIPAA forms.
- Effectively schedules patients from bump list and reminder.
- Accurately creates and maintains charts in paper and electronic formats. Effectively scans and indexes electronic records.
- Accurately completes charge entry process and can effectively resolve registration and charge entry edits.
- Accurately completes Payment posting process.
- Accurately generates no-show and missed appointment letters, dictation; sorts and distributes mail and faxes; sources translation services
- Meets patient and physician expectations
- Effectively checks out patients by scheduling return appointments, and procedures, collecting and post co-pay and self-pay balances, coding accurately, and complete encounter forms.
- Answers, screens & directs incoming calls, and answers basic patient-related questions and/ or problems.
- Complies with the letter and spirit of Billing and HIPAA regulations
