About The Position

At LifeNet Health, the Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLS/MT) plays a vital role in advancing the mission of saving lives, restoring health, and bringing hope to patients and families worldwide. This position is responsible for performing highly complex laboratory testing in registered CLIA subspecialties and non-clinical (industrial) testing, with work directly contributing to life-changing outcomes. The role is based in Virginia Beach, VA, in the QC Laboratory department, with a schedule of Wednesday-Saturday from 6:00 AM to 4:45 PM.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • ONE (1) year related laboratory testing environment
  • American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) certification or achieved within six (6) months of time in position.
  • Certified Tissue Bank Specialist (CTBS) certification or achieved within 3 years of employment and maintain throughout employment in position.

  • Bachelor of Science – Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science
  • THREE (3) years related laboratory testing environment
  • Knowledge of laboratory procedures in relevant areas of testing
  • Knowledge of Microsoft OS and laboratory information systems (LIS).
  • Ability to use complex reasoning to make decisions; decisions have departmental scope/effect
  • Knowledge of effective teamwork, effective interdepartmental communication

Responsibilities

  • Perform and interpret highly complex laboratory testing in registered CLIA subspecialties and non-clinical (industrial) testing according to SOP and within established timeframes.
  • Perform quality control according to established procedure.
  • Maintain technical competency; perform testing with accuracy and precision.
  • Make sound decisions based upon established procedure, rules, regulations, facts, and logic.
  • Recognize and report atypical events encountered during performance of tests and document CAPA when required.
  • Report test results using manual and laboratory information systems (LIS) according to established procedure; maintain complete and accurate departmental and donor records.
  • Monitor and operate laboratory equipment according to established procedure.
  • Assure a safe, clean, and orderly work area including maintenance of reagents, supplies, and stored samples.
  • Monitor supply and reagent levels, notifying appropriate personnel when supplies are needed.
  • Perform laboratory proficiency testing as required by regulatory agencies.
