As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MT) at IDEXX, you will be a key contributor at one of the largest veterinary diagnostic companies in the world. In this role, you will be using automated analyzers, microscopes, and other laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests that diagnose animal illnesses, injuries, and diseases in support of veterinarian animal treatment.

Requirements

  • 3+ years’ experience working in a clinical diagnostic laboratory setting, including setting up, running, and reading lab tests, and operating laboratory equipment (microscopes and/or clinical diagnostic analyzers).
  • Experience using a microscope to review slides, identify the various elements of a sample, and release results.
  • Experience performing routine maintenance, calibration, and quality control (QC) procedures on automated clinical diagnostic analyzers to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
  • Possess a High School diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Concentrate on the details and can work reliably and precisely.
  • Able to meet the physical requirements of working in a lab, including standing and sitting for extended periods of time, phone and computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50 lbs, and specific vision abilities (close, color, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus).

Nice To Haves

  • A 2-, 3-, or 4-year degree in a science-related field.
  • Experience and education as a Veterinary Technician (RVT, LVT, CVT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT or MT).
  • ASCP-licensed MLT/MT/CLS credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory testing that helps veterinarians diagnose and treat pets.
  • Use automated analyzers, microscopes, and other laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests that diagnose animal illnesses, injuries, and diseases in support of veterinarian animal treatment.
  • Perform diagnostic tests on blood, urine, fecal, or pet biopsy samples that we receive in our lab by the thousands, every day.
  • Set up and run lab tests and read and release results according to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
  • Specialize in one or more of the following areas: Hematology (Testing cell-related components of blood samples to enumerate and identify their cellular components, including the microscopic evaluation of blood smears and the use of automated and manual counting techniques).
  • Specialize in one or more of the following areas: Chemistry / Endocrinology (Testing blood and body fluids for various analytes, utilizing automated instrumentation).
  • Specialize in one or more of the following areas: Urinalysis (Analysis and evaluation of chemical and microscopic components of urine samples, using automated instrumentation and manual techniques).
  • Specialize in one or more of the following areas: Cytology (Processing blood and body fluids for microscopic examination by pathologists. Includes slide preparation and staining, utilizing manual and automated counting techniques).
  • Specialize in one or more of the following areas: Immunology / Serology (Testing blood and other samples for the presence of viral and bacterial disease by detecting antibodies (AB) or antigens (AG)).
