About The Position

The primary purpose of the Junior Sequencing Technologist (Medical Laboratory Technologist II) position is to perform dedicated wet laboratory sequencing work within the Sequencing and Bioinformatics Response laboratory within the State Laboratory of Public Health. This role supports epidemiological investigations and surveillance for a variety of pathogens in North Carolina. The technologist will perform molecular bench work alongside a Senior Sequencing Technologist and collaborate with supervisors and colleagues to expand pathogen sequencing within the Infectious Disease Unit. Additionally, the position involves supporting validation and method development, quality assurance, problem resolution, and the maintenance of sequencing methods and standard operating procedures (SOPs) within the laboratory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory technology, chemistry or a biological science from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in a medical laboratory in the assigned area
  • Associate’s degree in medical technology from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of medical laboratory experience
  • Completion of a certified laboratory assistant course in medical technology or a comparable course from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of medical laboratory experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform dedicated wet laboratory sequencing work within the Sequencing and Bioinformatics Response laboratory.

  • Work with the supervisor and colleagues to support the expanded sequencing of pathogens within the Infectious Disease Unit.
