About The Position

The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services provides services that promote and improve agriculture, agribusiness, and forests; protect consumers and businesses; and conserve farmland and natural resources for the prosperity of all North Carolinians. The Department employs approximately 2,000 employees. The primary purpose of this position is to conduct testing for the detection of antibodies to agents that can cause disease in avian and mammalian species. Duties include the processing of samples in accordance with standard operating procedures for bacterial serological tests; assure quality control of reagents and test kits; monitor and maintain laboratory equipment; prepare reagents as needed; interact with clients as needed.

Requirements

General theoretical knowledge of the variety of laboratory procedures applicable to serology, or other related disciplines
Skilled in aseptic technique and its application in cell culture
Ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipment
Working knowledge of Word and Excel
Ability to communicate effectively
Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, chemistry, or a biological science from an appropriately accredited institution; or Associate degree in medical technology from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in a medical laboratory; or Completion of a Certified Laboratory Assistant course in medical technology or a comparable course and three years of experience in a medical laboratory; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
