Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree
- Medical Laboratory Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist generalist certification from a nationally recognized accrediting agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT etc.)
- Minimum of two (2) years of laboratory experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of professional Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technician principles, practices, concepts, and theories providing for sound independent work
- Comprehensive knowledge of laboratory quality control, quality assurance procedures, and principles of performance improvement providing for sound independent work

Responsibilities
- Perform various clinical laboratory testing procedures in the General Clinical Laboratory in accordance with VA policies and procedures and the regulations of the medical staff bylaws of CTVHCS.
- Use independent technical judgment to analyze and interpret laboratory results.
- Perform, evaluate, interpret, correlate, and validate the accuracy of laboratory procedures and results.
- Monitor quality control systems and measures.
- Interpret and apply complex written instructions.
- Utilize basic knowledge of laboratory equipment and be able to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation.
- Resolve problems encountered in the laboratory.
- Communicate, consult, and interact with other members of the healthcare team, external relations, customer service, and patient education.
- Perform a broad range of laboratory procedures, including advanced and complex laboratory procedures.
- Recognize deviation from expected results and use scientific principles to analyze and correct problems.
- Evaluate and solve problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis accounting for physiologic processes and requirements.
- Maintain and document the optimal functioning of laboratory equipment.
- Use, calibrate, and identify malfunctions; repair and perform preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Troubleshoot issues with laboratory instruments and resolve problems.
- Diagnose deviations in test performance due to instrument malfunction.
- Perform and document quality control and quality assurance activities and corrective actions related to test performance using statistical principles and theories of performance improvement.
- Identify discrepancies, solve problems, and present solutions.
- Answer inquiries regarding test results, methodology, test specificity, test sensitivity, and specific factors that influence test results.
- Interpret results and suggest follow up test selection or procedures.
- Meet all acceptable quality and productivity standards as defined by Chief, P&LMS or designee.
