About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Technologist C (MLT-C) is responsible for the assessment, implementation, planning, evaluation, and supportive application of existing and new clinical knowledge and the translation of knowledge to practice. The prime focus of the MLT-C is to coordinate, support, maintain and deliver competency training, with a focus in Hematology, based on laboratory SOPs and policies. This training is delivered in partnership with curriculum leads via classroom, procedural skill/task training, simulation learning, clinical learning, and/or online learning strategies, while advancing practice. The MLT-C practices according to the Registered Health Professionals Network Act, and in accordance with profession specific acts/legislation, their professional regulatory body and in accordance with Standards of Practice. The MLT-C demonstrates competency in practice, program design and implementation, monitoring and evaluation of education, leadership, and professional practice. They exhibit the knowledge, attitudes and behaviors that align with the Interprofessional Practice and Learning Framework, which is grounded in theories of adult and concept-based learning, practice development, fundamentals of care and collaborative learning and practice. This position requires periodic travel to facilities within Nova Scotia, and a valid driver’s license and access to transportation is required.

Requirements

Graduate from an approved program in Medical Laboratory Technology
Three years’ related experience
Current registration with CSMLS and NSRMLS
In depth knowledge and experience with Meditech is essential
Must be able to recognize abnormal situations and respond appropriately
Must have demonstrated strong customer service skills; leadership skills; excellent organization and technical skills; as well as good decision-making skills
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally

Nice To Haves

Experience in the discipline of Hematology and experiences in the core disciplines (Clinical Chemistry, and Transfusion Science)
Certification in Simulation Specialist or Simulation Educator programs (i.e., CHSOS, CHSE, SLIIC)
Leadership Development Education
Adult Education Program
Previous experience with Blood Collection
Experience with Microsoft office Excel
Competencies in other languages (French preferred)

Responsibilities
