About The Position

Performs routine laboratory testing under general supervision. This position is ECB status, requiring a minimum number of worked hours per month as needed by the department, with limited benefit offerings. The role involves collecting and processing biological specimens, performing and reporting routine analytical tests, monitoring quality control, performing equipment maintenance, and supporting laboratory goals through teamwork and adherence to guidelines. The position also involves working with medical laboratory science students. Decision-making involves independent judgment for minor decisions within established policies and protocols. The role requires working directly with patients and internal/external customers, as well as other healthcare professionals. This is a safety-sensitive position under the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Use and Patient Protection Act.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory or equivalent education and training.
  • PC skills needed for efficient computer utilization.
  • Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to organize work in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Ability to be detail oriented in the examination of clinical and numerical data.

Nice To Haves

  • National certification exam as a laboratory scientist that is accredited by an approved agency preferred.
  • 1 year lab experience with high complexity testing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and process biological specimens and other substances.
  • Performs and reports routine analytical tests under direction of medical technologist, recognizing factors that affect procedures and results, and taking appropriate actions within predetermined limits when corrections are indicated.
  • Perform and monitor quality control within predetermined limits.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment under direction of medical technologist.
  • Supports laboratory goals by demonstrating teamwork, service excellence, adhering to established guidelines and policies.
  • Looks for ways to improve processes.
  • Works with medical laboratory science students during educational laboratory activities.
