About The Position

Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center is a 1,045-bed facility located in the Texas Medical Center. As a joint venture with Baylor College of Medicine, it is an internationally recognized leader in research and clinical excellence, with breakthroughs in cardiovascular care, neuroscience, oncology, and transplantation. The hospital houses the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center and its new McNair Campus is designed around the patient experience, focusing on safety and the future of healthcare through patient care, research, and education. As our Medical Lab Technologist, you will perform vital clinical laboratory procedures to detect, identify, measure, and report data crucial for disease diagnosis and treatment. Every day, you will expertly conduct waived and moderate procedures using technical skills, instrumentation, and information systems, providing essential clinical laboratory support while ensuring the quality and accuracy of all tests under leadership direction. To be successful in this role, you will possess comprehensive knowledge of laboratory principles across various disciplines (microbiology, hematology, chemistry, etc.), understand sample processing and result interpretation, prioritize chemical and biological safety, and be adept at operating and maintaining lab equipment.

Requirements

  • Associates Of Science in a biological or chemical science as defined by CLIA, upon hire
  • High School GED General Studies completed an official military medical laboratory course and held the military enlisted occupational speciality of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Lab Technician), upon hire
  • High School Graduate General Studies completed an official military medical laboratory course and held the military enlisted occupational speciality of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Lab Technician), upon hire

Responsibilities

  • Perform lab test procedures on patient specimens adhering to the Section’s Standard Operating Procedures to ensure accurate, timely reporting, aligning with local and state requirements.
  • Provide excellent patient care through clinical correlation of results, identification of patterns of bias, rapid notification of appropriate caregivers of critical values, and completion of testing within established turn-around time limits.
  • Ensure major automated equipment is operational by performing required maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting procedures, including contacting instrument vendors for assistance or repair.
  • Perform required calibration and quality control procedures and maintain records to ensure tests are being performed within established parameters.
  • Perform proficiency testing as assigned and review results with laboratory clinical leaders.
  • Assist in the evaluation and generation of compliant documentation for the validation of new procedures and equipment to provide physicians with the most current laboratory technology.
