About The Position

Performs chemical, bacteriological, serological and microscopic procedures in all functional clinical laboratory sections. Maintains records of performance, quality control and remedial action. Other duties may be assigned. Promotes customer relations in all interactions. Performs diagnostic tests and operates equipment independently in assigned areas of responsibility according to established procedure. Provides patient education. Incorporates the principles of quality control and initiates corrective action; assess specimen integrity and test results. Performs specimen collection according to established protocols demonstrating age-specific competency from newborn through geriatric age groups; adheres to patient safety practices for patient and specimen identification. Manages time effectively, organizing and prioritizing to meet established service expectations. Provides documentation for all test protocols, quality control, and quality improvement according to established policy/procedure. Maintains equipment as defined in policies and procedures for preventative maintenance and remedial corrective action. Collaborates with others to improve service delivery. Maintains confidentiality. Adheres to Laboratory safety protocols. Demonstrates computer skills specific to position. Displays competency for the Medical Laboratory Technician role as evidenced in the annual performance appraisal following the FHN PRIDE Standards.

Requirements

  • Associates degree from a CAHEA accredited MLT program or Associates degree in Chemistry, Biology, or Physics and five years’ experience in one or more clinical laboratory areas.
  • Associates degree in Chemistry, Biology, or Physics and completion of a military laboratory training program of at least 12 months duration or; Associates degree in Chemistry, Biology or Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science or related science and successful completion of an NAACLS accredited Medical/Clinical Laboratory Science Program.
  • Medical Laboratory Technologist (ASCP)
