About The Position

This is a PRN Opportunity and the individual must be willing to work from all locations (Mont Belvieu, Anahuac & Dayton). The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for recording daily temperatures for equipment and the laboratory area, troubleshooting any deviations, and maintaining reagent and supply inventory. They will perform and document all preventive maintenance for equipment and instrumentation, and follow established safety guidelines. The role involves adhering to established laboratory procedures, assisting in the collection of patient samples, processing all samples, and performing in-house testing. Accuracy and efficiency are key in performing all laboratory tests according to Good Laboratory Practice standards. Results must be reported out and verified before release. The technician will perform all calibrations, quality control, and quality assessment procedures, documenting all actions. Deviations from expected results or instrument performance must be investigated and addressed. The Laboratory Director and/or Technical Consultant must be notified if a test system is out of control and troubleshooting does not resolve the issue. Proficiency testing samples must be received, processed, and performed according to protocol, with accurate records maintained. Filing of paperwork is required, with laboratory records maintained for two years. The role also includes adhering to appearance standards, maintaining a professional dress, and exhibiting a friendly, efficient, positive customer service attitude. Interaction with patients, clients, and co-workers should follow the Service Excellence model. Commitment to professional growth and competence is demonstrated through annual training and participation in mandatory in-services and educational programs. Compliance with all established systems and training programs for a safe environment, as well as Chambers Health standards of operation and Business Conduct Policy, is mandatory. All records and reports must be maintained to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines, including civil rights and disability acts.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, or Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biology or Chemistry
  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Must be able to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Requires strong organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Record daily temperatures for equipment and for laboratory area. Troubleshoot any deviations to correct out of control readings.
  • Maintain reagent and supply inventory
  • Perform and document all preventive maintenance for equipment and instrumentation.
  • Follow established safety guidelines for working in the laboratory.
  • Adhering to established laboratory procedures, assist in collection of patient samples as requested by physician.
  • Process all samples and perform in-house testing according to written laboratory procedures.
  • Perform all laboratory tests with accuracy and efficiency adhering to Good Laboratory Practice standards.
  • Report out all results of tests performed and verify and sign prior to release for charting.
  • Perform all calibrations, quality control and quality assessment procedures according to manufacturer’s instructions and current laboratory policy. Document such actions.
  • Investigate any deviations from expected results or expected instrument performance and take action as directed by laboratory procedure such as troubleshooting and/or completion of Corrective Action Form.
  • Notify the Laboratory Director and/or the Technical Consultant if a test system is out of control and established procedures for troubleshooting do not solve the problem.
  • Receive, process and perform Proficiency testing samples in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and established laboratory protocol. Maintain accurate record of PT recipient, results and scores as directed.
  • File all paperwork according to laboratory procedures. Laboratory records are maintained for two years.
  • Adhere to all Chambers Health appearance standards and always maintain a professional dress while working.
  • Maintains friendly, efficient, positive customer service attitude toward customers, clients and co-workers. Is responsive to customer needs.
  • Uses Service Excellence model when interacting with patients, client, and guests.
  • Demonstrates commitment to professional growth and competence by adherence to hospital and departmental annual training commitments.

  • Maintains compliance with Chambers Health standards of operation. Always adheres to Chambers Health Business Conduct Policy. Maintains all records and reports to ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations and codes.
  • Maintains compliance with all requirements of Federal, State and local regulations and guidelines including the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, as amended, and the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended.
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned by manager.
