About The Position

The Student is a limited role/supervised Technician who works supervised with responsibility assigned to an MLT per shift. The Student MLT must have basic knowledge of test procedures and related disease processes, recognizing appropriate test selection and abnormal test results; comply with safety practices and ethical standards; follow procedural guidelines for quality control monitoring, computer applications, instrumentation trouble-shooting, and specimen collection/processing; prioritize work to maintain maximum efficiency and standard of care; assist with training and cost control; recognize technical problems/suggest solutions; understand life span growth/development to interpret data and provide age-appropriate care. Ensures adherence to the policy and procedures for Iredell Health system. Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Currently a second-year student from an approved school of Medical Laboratory Technology.
  • Students may be hired after rotation at Iredell Health System Laboratory through a clinical area with acceptable performance; this excludes Blood Bank and clinical Microbiology.
  • Must be a functional team player exhibiting professionalism, integrity and effective interaction and communication with customers and colleagues.
  • Must adhere to hospital/ departmental policies regarding laboratory processes and confidentiality.
  • Must possess full range of body motion to pass basic FIT test for position to include walking, kneeling, standing, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, reaching and sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
