PRN Medical Laboratory Technician, High Point Medical Center
About The Position
The PRN Medical Laboratory Technician, working in the Hematology/Oncology Clinic at High Point Medical Center, is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of patient laboratory test results. This role involves performing procedures efficiently with minimal supervision, responding to STAT requests immediately, and adhering to workflow processes and documented procedures. The technician will also ensure the quality of test results through defined Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) procedures, review QC results before reporting patient results, and maintain appropriate education to accomplish work objectives and certifications. Additionally, the role contributes to the productive and efficient operations of the section and department, coordinating activities and communicating effectively with others to achieve work objectives.
Requirements
- Must have at least 2 years' experience with hematology experience.
- MLT (ASCP) or equivalent certification required.
Nice To Haves
- Associate degree preferred.
- Previous experience as a Medical Lab Technician preferred.
- Hematology experience highly preferred.
- Successful completion of a NAACLS approved Medical Technician program preferred.
- Computer and keyboard skills preferred.
Responsibilities
- Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
- Ensures accuracy and timeliness of patient laboratory test results.
- Performs procedures efficiently and as indicated in the procedure manual with minimal supervision and within the required turn-around-time without compromising quality.
- Responds to STATs immediately.
- Follows workflow processes according to documented procedures.
- Documents and communications are reviewed in a timely manner and are appropriately referenced and applied.
- Ensures quality of test results by following defined Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) procedures.
- Follows QC procedures and evaluates QC results prior to reporting patient results.
- Test results are reviewed for accuracy and are promptly reported in the LIS.
- Ensures safety and compliance.
- Maintains appropriate education to accomplish work objectives and maintain current certifications as applicable.
- Ensures productive and efficient operations of the section and department.
- Coordinates activities and effectively communicates with others within and outside of lab section to accomplish work objectives through positive and professional interactions contributing to collegiality, teamwork and overall section productivity.
