About The Position

The Medical Technologist position at High Point Medical Center is a full-time role within the Laboratory department. The primary function is to perform and provide accurate laboratory test results on human patients. This includes preparing and issuing blood components for transfusions, assisting in sample collection and transport, handling hazardous materials, and managing laboratory supplies and equipment. The role also involves operating complex laboratory instruments, instructing others on their use, and supervising/training students and lower-level technicians. The shift schedule is Monday-Thursday, 8pm-0630am.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) Medical Technologist program
  • Five years' clinical lab experience, or two years' clinical lab experience with Medical Lab Tech (MLT) certification.
  • Medical Technologist (MT) ASCP certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as Medical Technologist preferred.
  • Ability to communicate on a professional level with physicians, nurses and other ancillary professional staff when discussing procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and provides accurate laboratory test results on human patients.
  • Prepares and issues blood components for patient transfusions.
  • Assists in the collection and transport of patient samples from the clinics to laboratory sections.
  • Handles hazardous materials in accordance with regulations to ensure safe working environment.
  • Requisitions and maintain inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment as needed for laboratory operations.
  • Supervises, trains, and reviews the work of students and lower-level technicians engaged in clinical laboratory work.
  • Operates complex specialized laboratory instruments; instructs other personnel in the use and operations of these instruments.
  • Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
