About The Position

As a Part Time Laboratory Technician at IDEXX, you perform laboratory testing that helps veterinarians diagnose and treat pets. In this role, you will use automated analyzers, microscopes and other laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests that diagnose animal illnesses, injuries and diseases in support of veterinarian animal treatment. You will perform diagnostic tests on blood, urine, fecal or pet biopsy samples that we receive in our lab by the thousands, every day. You will set up and run lab tests, then read and release results according to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures). You can expect to specialize in an assigned department.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Must be available to work the early morning shift (5:30am) two days per week.
  • Strong history of reliable attendance.
  • Working in the Parasitology department means working around/with animal fecal samples (setting up tests, swirling, inoculating, loading the analyzers, floating).
  • Want to gain laboratory experience, knowledge and skillset.

  • Great sense of team spirit and responsibility.
  • Able to meet the physical requirements that go with working in a lab – standing and sitting for extended periods of time, phone & computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50lb, and specific vision ability – close, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Potential exposure to biohazards, agents known to cause zoonotic diseases, and hazardous chemicals.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-, 3- or 4-year degree in a Science-related field is preferred.
  • Experience as a Veterinary Technician (RVT, LVT, CVT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT or MT) would be a plus.
  • Experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests, and operating laboratory equipment (microscopes, pipetting and / or clinical diagnostic analyzers).
