About The Position

Quest Diagnostics is hiring Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT) and Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLS) to support the Lab Operations team for Allina Health in Minnesota. This role involves performing routine and non-routine lab tests, requiring independent judgment and the use of various instrumentation. The position supports a growing team across multiple locations in the Greater Minneapolis area. Prior phlebotomy experience or training is required, or a willingness to learn phlebotomy responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Prior experience or training in a moderate or high complexity testing laboratory.
  • Previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493. 1433 published in March 14, 1990.
  • Prior phlebotomy experience or training or willingness to learn phlebotomy responsibilities.
  • Basic theoretical and operational job knowledge in clinical testing.
  • Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to establish work priorities and handle several tasks simultaneously.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to deal courteously and effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and clients.
  • Communication skills necessary to handle telephone inquiries from clients.
  • Ability to deal with client information in a confidential manner.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
  • Associates Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
  • For foreign educated candidates: provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF.
  • For United States educated candidates: provide a detailed original transcript.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1)+ year of MLT or MLS experience
  • ASCP Certification
  • Phlebotomy experience or training
  • Bachelor’s Degree BS in Medical Technology or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology

Responsibilities

  • Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), ensuring quality control requirements are met.
  • May perform moderate/high complexity testing with specific on-site training and oversight.
  • Comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record-keeping.
  • Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time for results, including STATs or critical results.
  • Ensure reagents/test kits have correct received dates, expiration dates, and opened dates.
  • Perform and document QC analysis to ensure accuracy of clinical data and proper instrument function.
  • Make quality control decisions regarding the disposition of an assay or test.
  • Inform supervisory personnel of any problems associated with test procedures.
  • Report any deviation from standard or accepted testing procedures and cooperate with investigations.
  • Review and enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reporting.
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
  • Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
  • Adhere to all established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements, including the use of personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and work practice controls.
  • Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel, if applicable.
  • Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections, if needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
