About The Position

Quest Diagnostics is hiring Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT) and Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLS) to join their Lab Ops team in Minnesota, supporting Allina Health. This hiring event is for multiple locations throughout the Greater Minneapolis area. The role involves performing routine and non-routine lab tests requiring independent judgment and the use of various instrumentation under the direction of senior laboratory personnel in specialties for which they are qualified by education, training, and experience. Prior phlebotomy experience or training, or willingness to learn, is required.

Requirements

  • Prior experience or training in moderate or high complexity testing laboratory.
  • Previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493. 1433 published in March 14, 1990.
  • Associates Degree Laboratory Science or Medical Technology. Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF. United States educated candidates must provide a detailed original transcript.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
  • Must be detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to establish work priorities.
  • Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously for maximum department efficiency.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to deal courteously and effectively with supervisors, co-workers and clients.
  • Communication skills necessary to handle telephone inquiries from clients.
  • Ability to deal with client information in a confidential manner.
  • Prior phlebotomy experience or training or willing to learn phlebotomy.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1)+ year of MLT or MLS experience.
  • ASCP Certification.
  • Phlebotomy experience or training.
  • Bachelor’s Degree BS in Medical Technology or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), ensuring quality control requirements are met.
  • May perform moderate/high complexity testing with specific on-site training and oversight.
  • Actively support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
  • Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time of results, including STATS or critical results.
  • Ensure reagents/test kits have correct received dates, expiration dates, and if applicable, opened dates.
  • Perform and document QC analysis to ensure accuracy of clinical data and proper instrument function, making quality control decisions regarding assay or test disposition.
  • Inform supervisory personnel of any problems associated with the performance of test procedures.
  • Report any actual or potential deviation from standard or accepted testing procedures and cooperate with investigations.
  • Review and enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized report generation.
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
  • Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
  • Adhere to all established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
  • Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and/or work practice controls as directed by management.
  • Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel, if applicable.
  • Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections, if needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
