Medical Laboratory Technician or Scientist
About The Position
This is a casual position with varying hours. The role involves performing and reporting tests of all complexity levels, as defined by CLIA, on patients of all ages to assist with routine screening, diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases and injuries. Responsibilities include exhibiting problem-solving skills, participating in Quality Assurance and Quality Control monitoring, instrumentation maintenance and troubleshooting, specimen processing, and phlebotomy. The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) role also includes interpreting and correlating test results with disease states and theoretical knowledge, performing duties of a highly complex nature, and potentially participating in research, development, education, and technical consultation.
Requirements
- Graduate of an associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) OR Meets Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) guidelines for the complexity of laboratory testing for alternative route (MLT).
- Graduate of a four-year degree in Clinical Laboratory science (MLS) OR MLT (ASCP) certified with additional semester hours in clinical laboratory equivalents from an accredited school with 2 years of full time lab experience and certified as an MLS (ASCP) (MLS).
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent certification, is required within one year from the date of hire (MLT).
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), is required within one year from the date of hire (MLS).
Responsibilities
- Perform and report tests of all complexity levels, as defined by CLIA, on patients of all ages.
- Assist with the routine screening, diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases and injuries.
- Exhibit problem-solving skills of a complex nature.
- Participate in Quality Assurance and Quality Control Monitoring.
- Perform instrumentation maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Perform specimen processing.
- Perform phlebotomy.
- Provide customer service.
- Interpret and correlate test results with disease states and theoretical knowledge (MLS only).
- Exhibit problem-solving skills of a highly complex nature (MLS only).
- Participate in research, development, education, and technical consultation (MLS only).
- May be required to perform phlebotomy and specimen processing duties (MLS only).
