Medical Laboratory Technician or Scientist - Float
About The Position
This position involves performing and reporting tests of all complexity levels, as defined by CLIA, on patients of all ages to assist with the routine screening, diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases and injuries. Responsibilities include exhibiting problem-solving skills, participating in Quality Assurance and Quality Control monitoring, instrumentation maintenance and troubleshooting, specimen processing, and customer service. For the Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) role, additional duties include interpreting and correlating test results with disease states and theoretical knowledge, performing duties of a highly complex nature, and potentially participating in research, development, education, and technical consultation. Phlebotomy may also be required for both roles.
Requirements
- MLT: Graduate of an associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technician OR Meets Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) guidelines for the complexity of laboratory testing for alternative route.
- MLS: Graduate of a four-year degree in Clinical Laboratory science OR MLT (ASCP) certified with additional semester hours in clinical laboratory equivalents from an accredited school with 2 years of full time lab experience and certified as an MLS (ASCP).
- MLT: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent certification, is required within one year from the date of hire.
- MLS: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), is required within one year from the date of hire.
Responsibilities

- Process specimens.
- Perform phlebotomy.
- Provide customer service.
- Interpret and correlate test results with disease states and theoretical knowledge (MLS only).
- Exhibit problem-solving skills of a highly complex nature (MLS only).
- Participate in research, development, education, and technical consultation (MLS only).
- May be required to perform phlebotomy and specimen processing duties (MLS only).
