About The Position

Under general supervision and following established laboratory procedures, the Medical Laboratory Technician/Medical Laboratory Scientist performs routine medical laboratory tests used in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. The position may also perform phlebotomy. Duties are carried out in compliance with applicable requirements and confidentiality standards while promoting the organization’s mission and philosophy. The role is responsible for processing specimens, performing tests, and reporting results; coordinating specimens sent to reference or outside laboratories; maintaining proficiency-testing records; and following laboratory quality-control policies. The technician or scientist documents quality-control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance. They recognize factors affecting measurements and results, respond to alert or critical results, communicate test information to authorized sources, and ensure corrective actions are completed before results are reported when a test system deviates from established specifications. The position administers testing according to policies and procedures, applies Total Quality Management guidelines, demonstrates technical skills to students and new employees, and follows company policies including OSHA, HIPAA, compliance, and the Code of Conduct. High-complexity testing, if the employee is qualified, is performed only under the onsite, direct supervision of a supervisor. Other duties may include phlebotomy, assisting with assessment reviews and lab staff scheduling or timekeeping, and performing other assigned duties. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, with availability between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Holiday shifts are worked as required by company policy. This is a PRN position.
