About The Position

MFM Health is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Medical Laboratory Supervisor (CLS/MLS) to lead our laboratory operations at our Middleton, MA practice location. Reporting to the Laboratory Director, this hands-on leadership role is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our clinical laboratory and point-of-care testing program while ensuring the highest standards of quality, patient care, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader who enjoys mentoring staff, optimizing workflows, maintaining laboratory compliance, and working closely with providers and clinical teams to deliver accurate and timely diagnostic testing that supports exceptional patient care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), Medical Technology (MT), Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS), or another chemical, physical, or biological science from an accredited institution.
  • Current national certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist (MT), or equivalent through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification or another nationally recognized certifying agency acceptable under Massachusetts regulations.
  • Minimum 4-6 years of clinical laboratory experience, including high-complexity testing.
  • Minimum 4-6 years of supervisory, management, or technical oversight responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience with Quality Assurance and Quality Control programs.
  • Demonstrated experience with Test validation and method verification.
  • Demonstrated experience with Proficiency testing.
  • Demonstrated experience with CAPA and root cause analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience with Regulatory inspections and accreditation surveys.
  • Demonstrated experience with Laboratory compliance under CLIA and Massachusetts regulations.
  • Experience in medical or clinical laboratory environments.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while maintaining regulatory compliance and quality standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Abbott Architect, Sysmex, Cepheid, or similar instrumentation.
  • Experience with Orchard LIS and Athena EHR.
  • Experience managing multi-site laboratory operations.
  • Experience supporting point-of-care testing programs.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all daily testing activities, including specimen handling, processing, testing, and result reporting.
  • Serve as a hands-on Medical Lab Technologist.
  • Maintain efficient patient flow and ensure excellent customer service.
  • Hire, train, and onboard new laboratory staff.
  • Ensure all staff meet required education, certification, and competency standards.
  • Conduct regular performance feedback, technical observations, and competency assessments.
  • Manage schedules, staffing levels, timesheets, attendance, and vacation records.
  • Promote clear communication through regular team meetings and collaboration with clinical teams.
  • Maintain and enforce all Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) programs.
  • Participate in proficiency testing, audits, troubleshooting, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain OSHA, HIPAA, state, and federal regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure laboratory documentation, policies, and procedures are current and accurate.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance, calibration, and repair with external vendors.
  • Oversee instrument implementation, reagent contracts, and supply inventory.
  • Monitor physical environment safety and initiate corrective actions when needed.
  • Collaborate with IT, Orchard LIS, EHR teams, and reference labs to maintain test dictionaries, workflows, and system functionality.
  • Support enhancements and problem resolution for all lab-related software systems.
  • Maintain MSDS chemical files and other required lab documentation.
  • Conduct cost analyses and support the introduction of new tests and equipment.
  • Investigate and resolve administrative, clinical, or patient-related issues professionally.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support laboratory operations.
