About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist for the Regional Blood Bank at Providence Health Plaza in Portland, Oregon, is responsible for accurately and promptly reporting high-complexity laboratory test results with minimal supervision. The Medical Technologist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist Journeyman performs pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical duties, including specimen evaluation, data analysis, instrument maintenance, and problem resolution. The role works with acute-care and outpatient caregivers and other Laboratory Services staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science from a NAACLS-accredited MLS program, or a bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
• Upon hire, hold one of the listed certifications: National Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP), National Clinical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP), National Medical Technologist (ASCP), National Medical Technologist (AMT), or National Medical Laboratory Scientist (AMT).
• One year of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in a laboratory department, or experience exceeding the principal duties and functions in the MLS I job description.

• Three years of clinical laboratory experience in a moderate- and high-complexity laboratory.

Responsibilities
