About The Position

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for specimen collection and processing, test performance, and reporting of test results. The Medical Laboratory Scientist performs a variety of laboratory tests and helps to maintain laboratory instruments. This role operates and maintains laboratory instruments, performs instrument calibration and quality control, and troubleshoots method and instrument problems. The position involves performing, interpreting, and reporting results of various tests, collecting acceptable blood samples, and ensuring all required information is complete for reference lab orders. The Medical Laboratory Scientist competently uses required computer programs, participates in Quality Assurance activities, and follows all OSHA standards. Additionally, this role provides excellent customer service to students, resolves issues with laboratory orders, and works efficiently and accurately to provide results to practitioners.

Requirements

  • BS, MT(ASCP), BS, MLS(ASCP), or MLT(ASCP) preferred
  • Acceptable education includes post high school training at a certified Medical Technology School and experience in laboratory work
  • Technical knowledge and understanding of test methodologies and laboratory equipment
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of computers
  • Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously in a timely and efficient manner
  • Attention to detail

  • Experience with lab-related computer databases preferred
