About The Position

Under the general supervision of a Supervisor, Manager, or Director, performs clinical laboratory testing according to established and approved protocols, exercising independent judgment and responsibility. Maintains laboratory equipment and records, performs quality assurance activities related to test performance, and may supervise and teach within the laboratory. The position supports accurate, timely reporting and interpretation of laboratory data, effective communication and handoffs, quality improvement, inspection readiness, and compliance with Wellstar policies and laboratory safety standards. This is a PRN position at Cobb Hospital requiring three shifts every 28 days. Night experience is required. The posting lists the work shift as Day (United States of America), while also specifying nights for the role. A bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Medical Science, or a general field, or a master's degree in another related field, is preferred. At least one year of laboratory experience is required, along with one of the listed medical technologist, medical laboratory scientist, molecular biology, or hematology certifications. Computer/data-entry experience and communication skills are required; Epic experience is preferred.

Requirements

Minimum one year of laboratory experience.
One of the following certifications is required upon hire: MT(ASCP), MT(AMT), MT(AAB), MT(HEW), MLS(ASCP), MLS(AMT), MB(ASCP), or H(ASCP).
Computer and data-entry experience.
Ability to communicate with various members of the healthcare team.
Ability to use Excel and Word and basic computer operational knowledge.
Night experience is required.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Medical Science, or a general field, or a master's degree in another related field (listed as preferred).
Epic experience.

Responsibilities

Perform clinical laboratory testing in accordance with established protocols, using independent judgment and responsibility.
Maintain accuracy in patient testing, quality assurance, proficiency testing, and competency testing; correctly identify patients or specimens and document investigations of quality assurance failures or trends.
Maintain laboratory instrumentation and meet department standards for testing and reporting error rates.
Analyze, investigate, interpret, and accurately report laboratory data within turnaround-time and productivity standards, considering clinical findings and information from multiple sources.
Track laboratory test status using the Pending Log procedure and document Notification Value Calls in the laboratory information system (LIS).
Communicate and hand off information according to department procedures and the chain of command.
Contribute to laboratory performance improvement, including assisting with analysis of new testing methods, correlations, procedure writing, and inspection preparation.
Use cost-efficient work processes while maintaining high-quality laboratory data.
Maintain current knowledge of and comply with Wellstar and laboratory policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and safety standards.
Complete required education and training and participate in meetings, committees, task forces, and project teams.
May supervise and teach within the laboratory setting.
Perform other duties as assigned and comply with Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
