About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Medical Laboratory Scientist provides technical skills in organizing and performing medical laboratory procedures and clinical laboratory techniques. The role performs routine laboratory procedures, recognizes deviations from expected results, and analyzes and corrects problems with assistance from more senior personnel. The position also supports quality control, instrument calibration and maintenance, sample accessioning, supply management, policy and procedure review, and laboratory inspection preparation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Excellent customer service for internal and external customers.
• Knowledge of general laboratory, safety, and quality control principles, techniques, and terminology, and use of complex medical equipment.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work in a Laboratory Information System.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine laboratory procedures and recognize deviations from expected results.
• Analyze and correct problems with assistance from more senior personnel.
• Perform quality control and calibrations on instruments.
• Perform weekly preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Accession samples for in-house testing and referral laboratory testing.
• Secure media and supplies for clinical testing or research studies and manage supply requests.
• Assist with reviewing and revising laboratory policies and procedures.
• Assist in preparing for laboratory inspections by regulatory and accrediting agencies.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
