About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) at Skokie Hospital will evaluate and interpret laboratory test results, recording and reporting findings accurately. This role involves processing and preparing blood components for transfusions, conducting antibody screening and compatibility testing, and maintaining laboratory equipment. The MLS will also manage inventory of blood products, ensure adherence to quality control processes, and perform routine processing and cryopreservation of hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPC) following Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Biological Science
  • Strong foundation in medical laboratory science.
  • Able to solve technical and interdepartmental problems related to various Laboratory areas with assistance under supervision.
  • Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results and taking corrective action or notifying appropriate supervisory personnel to assist with taking corrective action.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduated from MLS (Bachelors) or MLT (Associates) program.
  • MLS or MLT certification
  • Previous relevant clinical experience. New graduates are welcome.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and interpret laboratory test results, recording and reporting findings accurately
  • Process and prepare blood components such as red blood cells, platelets, and plasma for transfusions, following standard operating procedures
  • Conduct antibody screening and compatibility testing on blood samples, using advanced laboratory equipment and techniques
  • Maintain equipment, instruments, and supplies in good working condition, troubleshooting issues as needed
  • Ensure proper inventory management of blood products by monitoring expiration dates and maintaining appropriate stock levels
  • Adhere to quality control and quality assurance processes, performing routine checks and participating in proficiency testing
  • Performs routine processing and cryopreservation of hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPC) according to SOP, using sterile technique and following Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
