About The Position

This position involves performing high and moderate complexity testing in a laboratory setting, following established policies and procedures. The role includes pre-analytical and post-analytical support functions and requires clear communication with team members to optimize laboratory operations. The Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist will be responsible for accurate and efficient laboratory processes, equipment maintenance, quality control, and documentation. This role is part of a career ladder, with appropriate title and pay determined by education and experience.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in a chemical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution; Requirement specific in CLIA '88 to perform high complexity testing.
Bachelor's Degree in other field
Associate's Degree in clinical laboratory science and certification by ASCP or equivalent
2+ years Experience in a highly complex laboratory setting
Ability to keep organized
Displays initiative to perform job duties
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to multi-task
Initiates and maintains positive relationships with patients, customers, co-workers.
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively within role independently and with other team members
Knowledge of standard laboratory policies and procedures, safety practices, and laboratory equipment and instrumentation.

Works in multiple laboratory sections/disciplines independently (3 or more).
Displays ability to effectively train students and new team members
Good understanding of laboratory operations

Responsibilities

Accurately and efficiently performs pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical processes for laboratory testing
Maintains and troubleshoots laboratory equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions
Performs and evaluates all required quality control assessments as described in departmental policies and procedures prior to reporting patient results.
Evaluates results of laboratory tests according to laboratory protocols to ensure quality patient care.
Documents all laboratory activities according to policies and procedures
Maintains and demonstrates competency assessment in assigned area
Takes responsibility for self-development
Completes all assigned mandatory assignments within allowed timelines.
Is active participant in departmental projects
Collaborates with the laboratory supervisor to ensure laboratory compliance with all regulatory agencies by established standards
Trains students and new team members, and is a resource for other technical team members.
Assesses competency of team members as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Complies with all policies and standards.
Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients.
