About The Position

ChristianaCare’s General Laboratory on the Newark campus is recruiting a part-time Medical Laboratory Technician/Scientist for the midnight shift. The role performs laboratory testing and related work according to established procedures, quality controls, safety practices, and turnaround-time requirements. The schedule requires working every other weekend and two to three holidays per year.

Requirements

• Completion of an associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent.
• Knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and procedures.
• Knowledge of infection-control techniques and procedures.
• Ability to coordinate simultaneous tests and procedures accurately.
• Skill in using automated laboratory equipment.

Nice To Haves

• ASCP certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Accurately perform test procedures listed in the procedure manual.
• Perform and record scheduled instrument preventive maintenance.
• Follow established quality-control procedures and document corrective action when needed.
• Meet turnaround times; document calls as necessary; verify critical values and specimen identification.
• Verify completion of stat and routine results in a timely manner.
• Record workload and other statistics in the computer system as necessary.
• Perform assigned work safely and follow established department safety rules and practices.
• Perform other related duties as instructed.
