About The Position
Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This role is responsible for the pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing. The individual will follow standard operating procedures and ensure laboratory safety, quality, and regulatory requirements are met.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in laboratory or biological sciences required for Medical Laboratory Scientist position.
- Associates degree in laboratory or biological sciences required for Medical Laboratory Technician position.
- Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or be registry eligible.
- Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) also acceptable.
- Registry eligible candidates must successfully complete the Board of Registry examination within 12 months of employment.
- If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice.
- Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications.
- May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Responsibilities
- Collect laboratory specimens as needed
- Process lab specimens and perform clinical laboratory testing (manual and automated) in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of equipment relevant to the position
- Exercise critical thinking and independent judgment in decision-making and problem-solving
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to the organization’s principles, values, and ethics to promote a positive work environment
- Seek out opportunities for continuous learning and professional development
- Identify safety hazards and comply with all safety practices and protocols
- Assist in training new staff
- Serve as a laboratory resource
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Travel to other locations as required
