About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Lead will perform patient tests using manual methods and automated clinical laboratory equipment. This role involves ensuring quality control, reviewing patient test results for accuracy, and notifying appropriate clinical personnel of critical results. The MLS Lead will also assist in training new employees and students, and support the Supervisor in managing fiscal oversight, technical and quality assurance for their area of responsibility. Additionally, they may assist in staff performance evaluations, developing and implementing protocols for new procedures, and maintaining inventory and supplies. Efficient computer function, workload management, and meeting established turnaround times are also key aspects of this position. The role may also involve assisting in Operation Support.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in either Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Science (MLS, MT, CLS) or equivalent.
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification or equivalent required.
  • 2-3 years of previous Medical Laboratory experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient tests, manually and with automated clinical laboratory equipment, reagents and/or test methodologies
  • Performs quality control per established departmental protocols. Records QC appropriately and takes corrective action when QC is not within established guidelines. Documents corrective action taken.
  • Reviews patient test results for accuracy and notifies appropriate clinical personnel or all critical results. Documents this notification per established protocols
  • Assists in orientation and training of new employees and students.
  • Assists Supervisor in managing Fiscal oversight for area of responsibility
  • Assists “Technical Supervisor” and Supervisor in the oversight of Technical and Quality Assurance for area of responsibility.
  • May assist supervisor in the evaluation of staff’s performance in their area of responsibility.
  • May assist supervisor, manager, or director in developing and implementing protocols for validation of new procedures/methods and equipment.
  • Maintains inventory and supplies within respective departments.
  • Performs computer functions efficiently, manages workload and established turnaround times.
  • May assist in Operation Support.
