About The Position

A Medical Laboratory Scientist (Microbiology) plays a key role in diagnosing and monitoring infectious diseases by analyzing patient samples such as blood, urine, sputum, and tissue. In this role, you perform laboratory tests to detect, identify, and study microorganisms like bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate Degree Major, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology or an ASCP approved discipline.
  • ASCP certification or ASCP certification eligible. Certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Processes and evaluates patient specimens
  • Performs tests to identify microorganisms or antigens according to written procedures and perform susceptibilities.
  • Records and evaluates daily, weekly, and monthly quality control items in their assigned areas for further review by the supervisor.
  • Performs testing of patient samples, interprets, reviews, and prepares patient test results for review by the Supervisor and/or Medical Director.
  • Conducts inventory counts on assigned areas, restocks supplies as needed, reports supplies to be ordered, and stores received supplies per storage requirements and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
