A Medical Laboratory Scientist I in the core section performs laboratory tests that help in the diagnosis, detection and treatment of diseases in the areas of hematology, coagulation, immunology, chemistry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in medical laboratory science, medical technology, chemistry, biology, or other ASCP approved discipline
  • Eligible for examination and certification with ASCP.
  • Must obtain certification within 1 year of hire.
  • Persons must have proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 or more years of clinical laboratory experience.
  • Current ASCP, AMT or equivalent certification.
  • Knowledge of chemistry, special chemistry, hematology or immunology testing procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Set-up, maintain and operate lab automation systems used to process samples.
  • Operate, calibrate and maintain equipment used in analysis such as spectrophotometers, analyzers, microscopes, slide stainers, diluters, and computer controlled high volume analyzers, mixers, rotators, pipettes.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting on equipment used to perform testing.
  • Maintain equipment used for personal protection and safety such as eyewashes, safety showers, biohazard containers, hoods, chemical cabinets and personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain temperature dependent equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, incubators, water baths, heat blocks.
  • Conduct analysis of blood, urine, spinal fluid, body fluids and other biological samples to determine presence of normal and abnormal components in assigned section(s).
  • Perform quality controls or quality check materials and perform corrective action as required.
  • Enter test results and other data related to analysis and communication of results into relevant computer information systems or other document archival systems.
  • Provide technical information about specimen collection, sample transport, sample identification, required documents, test methods and other related technical information to RN, physicians or laboratory clients.
  • Use laboratory computer systems to order tests, generate results, generate reports, document results and communications, interpret results, and other lab duties related to inventory, testing method verifications and quality control.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
