About The Position

The MLT will be responsible for prompt and accurate performance of laboratory work in the various divisions of the laboratory. The MLT will ordinarily be assigned to regular, routine laboratory work in various divisions of the lab. Specific assignments may be changed as necessitated by varying workloads. Performs assigned work promptly and accurately. Uses appropriate quality control and make sure QC criteria are met before releasing reports. Keeps work area clean and neat at all times. Assists in training new lab employees, student technicians and aides by demonstration of techniques and supervision of tests. Evaluates and documents performance of testing personnel according to CLIA personnel requirements. Takes weekend back-up call on rotation basis or as assigned by the director. Works with and understands the LIS functions necessary for smooth day-to-day operation. Follows lab procedures for specimen acquisition, handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results. Adheres to the lab’s quality control policies and documents all QC activities, instrument and method calibrations and maintenance performed. Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and must correct the problems or immediately notify the section head, director or Medical Director. Successfully completes annual competency assessments for each test method performed. Assists with performance improvement activities. May be designated as a section head following CLIA requirements. Performs other duties as assigned by a section head, lab director, or Pathologist.

Requirements

  • Must be registered or eligible as an MLT, CLT (ASCP), or MLT (AMT), and/or HHS certified and qualify as general supervisors as outlined in CLIA regulations, or individuals with equivalent training, preferably with practical experience in general laboratory work.
  • Certification required within 1 year of hire.
