About The Position

The Medical Lab Technician performs clinical testing of laboratory specimens to provide accurate and reliable data for clinical assessment of patients. The technician follows MercyOne’s performance expectations and carries out defined services and related duties in accordance with the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values. This role works varied eight-hour evening shifts. New graduates are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

• Associate degree from a Medical Laboratory Technician program.
• Be eligible for ASCP certification and pass the certification exam within six months of hire, or be certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP.
• Be a Mandatory Reporter.
• Have intermediate language and math skills and high reasoning ability.
• Have experience or ability with a personal computer and database software.
• Be able to work with minimal supervision, remain highly organized, manage multiple simultaneous tasks, and work in emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Obtain appropriate specimens for testing.
• Perform clinical testing of laboratory specimens and review data for clinical correlation.
• Perform quality control testing on analyzers and analytes and interpret results.
• Troubleshoot instrumentation and assays.
• Follow safety, infection control, and colleague health policies and procedures.
